On 29th October 2025 an on line event in organisation of Eionet (European Environment Information and Observation Network) in form of webinar was held.

The aim of the webinar was to gain knowledge on the role of the environmental sector in the One Health approach by sharing insights from environment focused national One Health activities .

Webinar wanted to highlight areas where different forms of environmental monitoring – from biomonitoring in sentinel species to genomic surveillance and antimicrobial resistance tracking – can inform early warning systems and preventive actions to support animal, environmental and human health.

The Eionet HE survey completed in June 2025 allowed the EEA to collect diverse types of national One Health projects considering the interconnections between human, animal, and, especially, environmental health. These projects illustrate how environmental monitoring and cross-sectoral collaboration can help identify (emerging) health risks and improve preparedness and response to health threats.

The presentations for the webinar have been planned to reflect as much as possible the diversity of the topics covered by the projects.

From four presentations, participants were able to hear and discuss about the following topics:

1. Ireland – Establishment of a One Health Oversight Committee – Environment, Climate and Health subgroup, presented by Aislig O’Connor
2. Germany – Environmental Specimen Banking – long-term trends for ecosystem helth, presented by Jan Koschorreck
3. France – Environmental surveillance antimicrobial resistance- PROMISE a French meta-network to connect AMR initiatives, presented by Christofe Dagot
4. Croatia – Environmental surveillance of vectors of diseases – Project CROOH: Establishment of a coordinated disease surveillance system (in Croatia) in accordance with the OH approach, presented by Brigita Hengl
